Private Hastie, a journalist by profession went to fight with BEF in November 1915. He gave his next-of-kin as a brother resident in Swansea. He suffered wounds and disease and spent time in Abbeville Hospital in October 1917 and was repatriated to Boscombe Military Hospital where he remained until mid December suffering from gunshot wounds. He was listed at Southern General Birmingham before rehabilitation in June 1918 Southam VAD Hospital.
