Honouring those who died and all who served
Private John Thomas Gardner
John Gardner was a former pupil of Southam Council School. His name was announced in the Warwick Advertiser in May 1915 on a list of thirty-five serving men who were former scholars.[1] His brothers Bertie, Ernest and Frank were also listed. They were four of the six sons of lime worker Alfred Gardner and his wife Annie of Appendix Street. By 1915 Annie had been a widow for a decade.
Private John Gardner was born circa 1889 and as he served in the early part of the war he would probably have been awarded the 1914/15 Star, and Victory and British medals.
No more information has been found about his enlistment, service or future life and career.
