“A History of Southam Fire Brigades” 2019 Exhibition
The 2019 summer exhibition “A History of Southam Fire Brigades” opened on the late May Bank Holiday Monday and ran until the end of September in the new Exhibition Room in Tithe Place.
It was developed with much help from Alan Griffin, Mike Hill and Andy Duckett all of whom served in the Southam Fire Brigade. Alan Griffin wrote a book (available from the Heritage Collection” called “Fetch the Engine”) focussing on the history of local brigades and also produced a video “A Noble Duty” which traced the history of Fire Brigades in general from Roman times.
Through a selection of photographs, documents, uniforms and items the local Fire Brigade story was told alongside artefacts from the Heritage Collection and others lent to us by men who had been directly involved. Our visitors enjoyed history through a range of mediums.
The attached pdf document (© Southam Heritage Collection) only touches on part of the story behind Southam’s Fire Brigade, but gives you a feel for an organisation that provided an extremely valuable service to Southam and other local communities over an extended period of time and which continues to this day.
